的士 Translator

A problem that I came across a lot when arriving in Hong Kong was not knowing where I was going; especially fustrating to taxi drivers who will often needs a more detailed destination than just a district and when you get the driver giving suggestions of certain streets which are easier to access.

Taxi drivers don’t like being shown a map on your phone populated with unreadibly tiny place names.

This little app solves the problem and has been in regular use by some of my non-Chinese speaking friends for a little while now.

The app contains ever street in Hong Kong (that I’ve needed… and I only ever use this app if I’m travelling somewhere a little less well known), displaying English, Traditional Chinese, and Jyutping – so you can still try saying it yourself.

The best bit is the “taxi card” (below), which makes it easy unless you get asked any questions about routes or surrounding destinations.

The app is available on the Play store for $7.70HK HERE, which isn’t bad even if you only use it a couple of times.

To see some of the other Android apps I’ve found useful have a look HERE.

  1. Well Nice Places HK. We welcome the competition and good work on your buildings directory, but posts like this, and even more your bad reviews of our app in the app store really does make you look small. Lets compete by building great apps for our users, not silly stuff like this. Kind regards, Your Friends at Triple Happiness
