𨳍 (cat6) – explanation and use

WARNING! 小心! Some of the articles on this site contain words which may cause offence.

I found a series of articles by a random person on Facebook that seemed quite interesting. They depict the correct usage of certain swear words in Cantonese. All of the articles are written in Cantonese so I thought I’d have a go at translating them. The translation might not be entirely accurate.

I would also like to point out that this is a translation, the original document might not be entirely correct and some of the text might be slightly offensive. Where I don’t agree with the translation I have stated so.

「七」原是數字之一。當用作粗口時讀作cat6。「七」的意思:

「cat1 」 jyun4 si6 sou3 zi6 zi1 jat1 。 dong1 jung6 zok3 cou1 hau2 si4 duk6 zok3 cat6。「cat1 」dik1 ji3 si1 :
七 is written as a number rather but is read as 𨳍 (the sounds are the same, but the tone is different).  means:

名詞,陽具的意思,量詞是「碌」。例子:碌七六七吋,隊到好撚遠。(陽具長達六七吋,延伸到很遠的地方。)

ming4 ci4 ,joeng4 geoi6 dik1 ji3 si1 ,loeng6 ci4 si6 「luk1 」。lai6 zi2 :luk1 cat1 luk6 cat1 cyun3 , deoi6 dou3 hou2 nan2 jyun5 。(joeng4 geoi6 coeng4 daat6 luk6 cat1 cyun3 ,jin4 san1 dou3 han2 jyun5 dik1 dei6 fong1 。)
As a noun, means “penis” which uses the classifier 碌 (luk1), which refers to a long piece of strength (bamboo etc).

形容詞,形容過時、難看、笨拙的形象。亦可指明形容思想。例子:條友好七。(那人的外表很過時、難看、笨拙。)條友D思想好七(那人的思想很過時、笨拙。)語氣助詞,本身無義。例子:玩乜七野呀?(玩什麼啊!?)

jing4 jung4 ci4 ,jing4 jung4 gwo3 si4 、naan4 hon3 、ban6 zyut3 dik1 jing4 zoeng6 。jik6 ho2 zi2 ming4 jing4 jung4 si1 soeng2 。lai6 zi2 : tiu4 jau5 hou2 cat1 。( naa5 jan4 dik1 ngoi6 biu2 han2 gwo3 si4 、naan4 hon3 、ban6 zyut3 。) tiu4 jau5 Dsi1 soeng2 hou2 cat1 ( naa5 jan4 dik1 si1 soeng2 han2 gwo3 si4 、ban6 zyut3 。)jyu5 hei3 zo6 ci4 ,bun2 san1 mou4 ji6 。lai6 zi2 : waan4 mat1 cat1 je5 aa3 ?( waan4 sam6 mo1 aa3 !?)
As an adjective, 𨳍 can be used to describe someone who is outdated (fashion), ugly, or clumsy (in image form).  It also could apply to thoughts or an idea.  For example: to say someone is 好𨳍 (to imply that the persons appearance is very outdated, ugly or clumsy.   To say that someone’s ideas are 好𨳍 (to imply that the idea is outdated / old fashioned).  Spoken as a modal auxiliary (is not correct?).  For example “you play 𨳍 what?”.

「七」字是使用率最少的廣東粗口字。「七」字雖然可以作詞氣助詞,夾雜在句子中,然而讀起來並不順口。「七」字除用作形容詞外,應用範圍較少。「七」字作形容詞用的更多例子:

「cat1 」zi6 si6 sai2 jung6 seot1 zeoi3 siu2 dik1 gwong2 dung1 cou1 hau2 zi6 。「cat1 」zi6 seoi1 jin4 ho2 ji5 zok3 ci4 hei3 zo6 ci4 ,gaap3 zaap6 zoi6 geoi3 zi2 zung1 ,jin4 ji4 duk6 hei2 loi4 bing6 bat1 seon6 hau2 。「cat1 」zi6 ceoi4 jung6 zok3 jing4 jung4 ci4 ngoi6 ,jing3 jung6 faan6 wai4 gaau3 siu2 。「cat1 」zi6 zok3 jing4 jung4 ci4 jung6 dik1 gang3 do1 lai6 zi2 :
The word isn’t used a lot as profanity within the Guangdong province.  Although it may be used as an auxiliary word, placed into the middle of a sentence, however it may not read smoothly.  The use of the word as an adjective is relatively uncommon.  Here are some examples of using 𨳍 as an adjective.

打七佢!(把他打得變成很難看的樣子!)

daa2 cat1 keoi5 !(baa2 taa1 daa2 dak1 bin3 sing4 han2 naan4 hon3 dik1 joeng6 zi2 !)
Fucking hit him!

貌似北京狗,七到無人有。(容貌好像北京狗,難看笨拙得無人能比。)

maau6 ci5 bak1 ging1 gau2 ,cat1 dou3 mou4 jan4 jau5 。(jung4 maau6 hou2 zoeng6 bak1 ging1 gau2 ,naan4 hon3 ban6 zyut3 dak1 mou4 jan4 nang4 bei2 。)
To seem / look like a Beijing dog i.e. very ugly.

常見的單獨字句應用:七頭(指外表過時、難看、笨拙的人,亦可單指髮型。)

soeng4 gin3 dik1 daan1 duk6 zi6 geoi3 jing3 jung6 :cat1 tau4 (zi2 ngoi6 biu2 gwo3 si4 、naan4 hon3 、ban6 zyut3 dik1 jan4 ,jik6 ho2 daan1 zi2 faat3 jing4 。)
Dick head! (ugly, out of date style, etc etc etc).  This can probably be used in the same way as saying “dick head” in English.

七碌(指外表過時、難看、笨拙的人。)

cat1 luk1 (zi2 ngoi6 biu2 gwo3 si4 、naan4 hon3 、ban6 zyut3 dik1 jan4  。)
To point out the externals of a person being ugly, out of date etc etc etc.

笨七(形容笨拙的人。)

ban6 cat1 (jing4 jung4 ban6 zyut3 dik1 jan4 。)
Stupid prick!

切七(把陽具切掉。)

cit3 cat1 (baa2 joeng4 geoi6 cit3 diu6 。)
To cut the male sexual organ (I think what I have got to remember is that socially insults can be different.  To say “I’ll cut your dick” isn’t exactly an insult to me, but that’s more due to what kinds of things are offensive in my own language.  If anything it is more of a threat.)

切七煲湯派街坊 (把陽具切掉,並拿去煲湯,然後分派給左鄰右里。)

cit3 cat1 bou1 tong1 paai3 gaai1 fong1 (baa2 joeng4 geoi6 cit3 diu6 , bing3 naa4 heoi3 bou1 tong1 ,jin4 hau6 fan1 paai3 kap1 zo2 leon4 jau6 lei5 。)
To cut off and eat the penis and feeding the neighbours.

Be warned about the use of these words.  In Hong Kong there are laws similar to those in the West about swearing in public.  You also don’t want to go round simply insulting people.  A lot of local people don’t use profanity and find it offensive, regardless of how it is used.
